I finally have time, now, to start reading outside of my degree again. I've finished Slaughterhouse-Five for the second time, still very good, but it's no Catch-22.

Now I am about to start either on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (at LAST) or possibly Crash, by J.G Bullard, which has one of the best opening pages I've read in a long time.

I'm halfway through The Amber Spyglass, the third in Phllip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.

Not bad. Not as stunningly amazing as some people seemed to think, but well worth reading nonetheless.

I've just finished Everything Is Illuminated by Johnathan Safran Foer. Stunning at times, rambling at others and a rather unsatisfactory ending. His new book is meant to be something amazing.

At the moment though it's Fight Club by ChuckPalahniuk, the novel that the film is based on. Absolute genius, it's a cynical, witty read. And very short too. Check it out.

I just finished reading Legends, a collection of fantasy short stories written by various authors set in the worlds they already have series based in. It was great, some of the series I've read, some not, so it's turned me on to some potential new fantasy addictions.

Today I bought The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley and Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, which I wanted to read ages ago but never had the chance.

However, since I'm currently dissertationing, I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to start them. Atwood is probably my favourite author, so I have high hopes for Oryx and Crake.

Just finished The Glass Bead Game.

Now I'm onto A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Just at this moment put down 'understanding power' - a collection of Chomsky's speeches/lectures. its excellent, as ever, although the editors have chosen to put the footnotes on the web rather than in the book, which is dead annoying when you're not near a computer.

fiction-wise i've been dividing my time between the sherlock holmes long stories and Philip Roth's 'Portnoy's complaint', which is filthy.

On the academic side of things, I'm ploughing through various Marx at the moment.

On the non-academic side, I'm gradually stumbling through 'Ghostwritten' by David Mitchell, which like all his books, is great.

American pyscho at the moment by Brett Easten Ellis. Has anyone read Lunar Park, I've heard good things?

I'm on Oblivion by DF Wallace. It's a very strange collection of stories but when you immerse yourself it's so satisfyingly brilliant it takes your breath away. It deserves real commitment, mind.

Libs, Slaughterhouse Five is one of my favourite books.

Down and Out in Paris in London by Orwell is next in my pile of books to read, I think it's the last one I haven't read of his.

Read a review of Lunar Park, said it's depressing and grim iirc.

Just finished FALILV by H. S. Thompson, very funny in places. His use of exclaimation marks it very rare: they actually make me laugh with what they go with.

Rather stupidly I've left my next book to read (Crash) back in Bournemouth where I won't be for 3 weeks now. I've also left my scarf, my Family Guy boxset, Football Manager 2006 and any other DVDs I may have wanted to watch, behind.

FALILV will explain your current interet in psycadelics!
Thomson has a good way of describing this. Read better than Sex , It is a great book, so is Rum Diary.

If you are enjoying this kind of book Love Libs I insist that you read Wonderland Avenue by Danny Sugarman.
