American pyscho at the moment by Brett Easten Ellis. Has anyone read Lunar Park, I've heard good things?
Lunar Park is excellent - starts off almost autobiographical and then descends into a semi ghost story. Although it says on the back, "everything in this book is true", it's clearly all fiction... (apart from references to his other books) there is even a fictional website devoted to his fictional wife
Probably would be best to read all of BEE other books as there are quite a few references/characters that make an appearance in Lunar Park, including Patrick Bateman.
I've decided to work through some of my mum's classics, starting with Flaubert - Madame Bovary.
The reason is becasue I read By Grand Central Station I Sat Down And Wept recently, which was compared in passing to MB.

Just finished The Shooting Party by Chekov, which was pretty good, but...
Am about to start on Paradise Lost. Had to really, after reading the His Dark Materials trilogy - it's like reading the book a film you like is based on.
Anyone read it? Thoughts?

Cider with Roadies..... Machonie Genius!
I've read that and enjoyed it.
I'm currently swapping between 'Narration In The Fiction Film', 'Film As Social Practice' (text books) and 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep' by Phillip K. Dick. Not normally too keen on Science Fiction but this is alright.

What's that about, Sarah?
I've got Revolution in the Head by him, just fascinating to dip into.

It's about all the music of the 60's and 70's. Dylan, The Beatles, Marvin Gaye, The Stones, Jefferson Airplane, Love, Nick Drake, e.t.c. It's a tad dull so far however.

Recently finished Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys and Jonathan Livingston Seagull by someone or other (courtesy of Jared).
I'm in the middle of The Unbearable Lightness of Being which I am really loving. I read Identity by Milan Kundera and almost fell asleep so I am pleasantly suprised.

Just finished Phillip K Dick's The Game Players of Titan pretty damn good, if you like his style - ie. paranoid and involving drugs.
I recommend.

"Purple Homicide" by John Sweeney (It's a hilarious tale of Martin Bell vs the Hamiltons in Tatton back in '97).

The Handmaid's Tale - Margeret Atwood at the minute. Really enjoyable.
Then however, I might have to start with some Uni reading - M Cunningham's The Hours of Alice Walker - The Colour Purple.

I couldn't stand reading Margaret Atwood. Half the book was just Winston from 1984 given first-person narrative and breasts. She's actually ripped some lines DIRECTLY from Orwell :S
I started reading 'A Year In The Merde' but the narration was just too same-same all the way through and I got bored. Anyone got any recommendations?
