Hahaha, I knew you'd say that. Of course I wasn't saying you were a Nazi - I was just saying that one could apply that form of lazy acceptance to anything.

Sometimes I think people find things funny because they think they should. I certainly know that when I'm watching things and don't find them funny, I assume it must be because I'm being dense and that they must be really and that I should try harder...I then realise that they're really not funny and it's not me at all. And I'm not accusing you of finding it funny because you think you should - I'm just saying that maybe it should be borne in mind that others might.

I think Iloveculture's point is that comedy should be vaguely challenging and should be the sort of thing that you couldn't just stick on CBBC at 4pm if you minused the swear words, and I'd have to agree with that. It's the difference between the Manics and Busted, for example, or Bob Dylan and Avril Lavigne. But as I'd say with Busted and Avril Lavigne, if there are people who don't want to be challenged or put effort into these things, then that's fair enough; they can like what they wat to like. I, however, prefer things that make me think, or are provocative etc. Greatness as opposed to easiness, I suppose.

I don't think Iloveculture's always right. I wouldn't think he cared enough to dislike you. I don't think he's arrogant either...unless talking passionately about something you care about makes you arrogant, in which case we're all cocky arses, aren't we?

Please note that I'm not making complete generalisations about the Mighty Boosh as, as you're probably thinking, I've still not seen it. I was intending to do so, but gay stuff happened, so I couldn't. I'm basing my opinions on those of people I trust and who like the same things as I do, and that's why I've not said 'The Mighty Boosh is a complete piece of arse'.

I never said that you said i was Nazi!!..I said that you cant use the analogy of accepting Nazism as similar to accepting a comedy!!!...Cos that would be just sooo stupid!!..

I had never heard of the Mighty Boosh when i stumbled across it..it made me laugh so i watched it!!..so therefore of a program i had never heard of i was hardly expecting it to make me laugh.i approached it with a completely blank slate.

ok i get your point that people think tehy should find things funny..like Peter Kay for example, hes been bigged up so much in my opinion that when i saw his stand up i was tryin to hard to laugh then i felt this jokes were actually crap, not that i didnt get them.controversial i know.but thats my humble opinion.

Well i suppose i would love to see more challenging/provocative comedies on Tv,but when your having a laugh with your mates its never, well not with me,about anything to comlicated, its normally giddy childish behaviour.and if that makes you laugh then i suppose thats why other such comedians make me laugh..if that makes sense?

and no,im not thinking that you have made generalisations hence me saying, wathc the boosh cos u might like it.

ps..i only said that he might not like me thingy cos id just watched my fave simpsons episode where homer says that.not really for any reason.

The first time I watched the Boosh, I thought it was a load of shite with terrible acting and really weird jokes. The episode was Mutants, I think. Just have a look at the first post in this topic to see how far I've progressed. For many, including my family and friends, it's taken a few episodes to get used to the Boosh world but after that, most people I know have fallen in love with it! My fave TV show of the last year by miles.

Queueman- 02-28-2005
yeh!..mikemike i wish you were about earlier!..ive been tiringly defending it for hrs on end!.. mellow.gif
Noel Fielding is funny in my opinion.ok maybe not in other programs..but i like the randomness.it makes me laugh an im proud biggrin.gif
an it was my fave TV program on tv to over the last year.to the extent i stayed up to watch it on BBC 3 at 3.00am.

But I was saying that you can't say 'lots of people like it, so it must be good'. I wasn't saying that following Nazism is like laughing at a specific type of comedy, because yes, that would be silly; just that you can't say that something is good because lots of people like it.

Yeah, I see what you mean that TMB must be okay becuase it makes you laugh - it's just that...I don't know...I'm sure there's a song on the Keane album that's listenable to, but that's just not enough. But I think I'm taking on Iloveculture's argument more than my own here, so I'll stop there.

No; I just didn't really see the point. Sorry. The phrase 'agree to disagree' is also one of my bugbears, I think.

But yes, sorry smile.gif

Ok it may have sounded like i believed my opinions were factual but i did say im not the most articulate of debater so dont be so pedantic.

Well, no. You did say "I'm sorry but you are wrong" with regards to an opinion I held. If opinions can be wrong then they obviously have something to do with facts.

Well if your a student then surely u should like student things?..well i do,sorry for not being adequately mature..i doubt you could say that Ross Noble is lazy, seeing as most of his act is completely spontaneous

I'm using the term ''studenty'' in a pergorative sense here though. Like if you read some dreadful poetry it could be described as "6th formy". By "studenty" I mean "amateurish"

Good for you I say. I am proud of it myself, sometimes.

Oh come on..compaing it to Nazism?...thats just silly.People were either killed or brain washed into following it.they hardly just chose to!!!...

No, her point still stands actually.

You're basing the quality of The Boosh on whether or not a lot of people follow it, not based on it's intrinsic qualities, but with Nazism you are basing it on it's intrinsic qualities. I noticed you didn't pull her up on the "Keane sell loads of albums" point. Because, I suspect uyou'd have a hard time forming the sentence "Yes, Keane are obviously great because a lot of housewives bought their cd".

You're saying "The Mighty Boosh is good because lots of people follow it"
And you're also saying " Nazism is bad because despite a lot of people following it, it's..er..just bad because of...(and then you could go on to talk about concentration camps, mass genocide etc)"

See the discrepancy?
I'm not having a go here, just pointing this out.

QUOTE
The Boosh is a comdey show and if people laugh it then it is funny!..surely?..cos thats the only way you can judge a comedy show?..

So by that theory the following shows are all great comedy shows:

All About Me
According to Bex
My Hero

and so on?

Surely not?
