I think Mike's making a wider point about the tendancy amongst some NME readers to just accept whats dished up to them on the cover and in the main sections, even if it is shite.(the automatic, the kooks, the datsuns, ect ect ect)
Yeah I completely agree with this. But sometimes I worry about the degree of cynicism of some people; sometimes it's just needless.
I agree with LWID. I know there's a lot of Kooks hate here, but they're singles are actually very very good. And as for the misconception in "real" music circles that just because something does well in the mainstream automatically makes it shit...fuck off.

Some of the bands are good it is just that they are very middle of the road. virgin radio bands
B1oodFlower- 10-25-2006
Well for me, I have no issue with bands being successful, and good. Its just the two rarely seem to occur.Alot of what's pushed is what we're "supposed" to like, The Kooks are just innofensive MOR "indie" created by people who think they know what indie music is.
What I'm saying is where's the danger? Where's the intelect?Where are the bloody great tunes? These days.
The long blondes are the only ones I quite like out of the current bands pushed by the NME, and they were doing great things long before the NME ever picked up on them.

Don't forget the main point: The Horrors and their music smell of stale biscuits, dandruff and urine - they shouldn't be encouraged.
Seriously, they're terrible, but almost too weak and built-in obsolescent to get wound up about. You know, like most one-joke bands. (And it is a joke, right...?)
Bill: Wasn't planning to - think I'm going to a Wetherspoons with a disturbed friend that night. Wheee! I'm tempted to do a bit more reviewing, but have been edging out of it lately - being a vile-tempered "my arse is gravelled by impatience and jealousy" type, I do get tired of bigging up other bands... That and the element of jobbery... Isn't that awful? Guess it makes me part of the problem.
I maintain The Horrors suck cock, however.

Fair enough, the offers there though if you ever fancy it.
