Hello!
I'm not sure how many people like a bit of folky-acoustic stuff - so here goes...
I thought I'd say hello and post a couple of links for my band Gwildor if anyone is interested. wacko.gif Our 1st EP is a home recorded (i.e. fairly shoddy) offering - that you can listen to below.

Thanks!

The octopus project are worth checking out. they're opening coachella this year i believe. a couple of people have mentioned ymss and radio dept., both of which get thumbs up from me. also the recent surge in interest in broken social scene made me check out their back-catalogue - feel good lost is incredible, really different to their new lp. saw the good shoes in oxford a couple of weeks ago supporting be your own pet, and they were excellent too. also pinback, not exactly new but i only really got into them recently and i'm really enjoying them, especially their self titled album.

Current favourites:

Figurines (http://www.myspace.com/figurinesdk/)
Sublime, fast-paced indie-rock from Denmark (though you can't guess it from the vocals, the lead singer's got a great Neil Young/Built To Spill type voice).

Tapes 'n Tapes (http://www.myspace.com/tapesntapes/)
Could be the next victims of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah type hype. I think they're wonderful though, very Pavement-y

Band Of Horses (http://www.myspace.com/bandofhorses/)
Like The Shins, with darker, heavier touches, sometimes moving into Arcade Fire-style epic territory. I've only heard three songs but they're so good I'm recommending them anyway.

My Latest Novel (http://www.myspace.com/mylatestnovel/)
One of the few British bands I'm genuinely excited about. They're Scottish, and they're like a cross between my two favourite Scottish bands: Belle and Sebastian and Mogwai: great tunes, soft vocals and post-rock soundscapes.

Isn't that name a bit too similar to 'Dirty Pretty Things'?

dr_gavin- 04-28-2006
Which in turn is too similar to The Pretty Things...

As the sublibertines thing peters out some good bands rise again.

Stuart Bruce is good.
He supported us at Yates' in Northampton a week or two ago.
He's been doing our local scene for quite some time now and always lived off the scraps of crappy acoustic nights. You know the sort where the guy who used to do the sound desk for Deep Purple gets up every third Tuesday of the month to whine through over-reverbed folky nonsense whilst his hairy mate plucks dischordantly at a chorus saturated acoustic guitar.
Good to see he's making progress.
I think he's on Steve Lamaq's play list or something like that.
