THE CROWD
"...brilliant music for the roaming scamps out there" (Artrocker) A sharp modernistic pop quartet from Crowdville, Nodnol. A welcome return to one of their spiritual homes. The Crowd walk rock like they talk rock. "Lyrical genius" as John Kennedy of Xfm observed.

NEBRASKA
"Mike connects with an audience the way most NME bands would struggle to.... You can feel that this band can connect with hearts. Nebraska are a magical experience." (God Is In The TV) Another return, another favourite at 460 New Cross Road. Last seen here, on the shoulders of their audience!

CHARLIE BROWN
"brilliantly catchy songs both lyrically and musically..." (Planet Beet) "Young, vital and quick-witted, Charlie Brown is the band of the moment. Fact." (IP1) The debut London gig in June was so good we wanted them back. Not the only ones! (CB found themselves winning a London battle of the bands heat shortly after!) .

DEVIL IN MISS JONES
London Town Is A War Zone! Soul punx unite! Devil In Miss Jones are the motor mouth, rocket fuelled answer to a misguided generation. An enticingly dangerous mix on their way to becoming a revolution, they've been cited as "punk that flirts with being pop but then dumps the idea in the gutter where it belongs".

PLUGS
Think it was a Tuesday night out at Six String Bar and there was this new, tight, naive, aurally dynamic band on. They were great. Sometimes hounding people works. Plugs have been persuaded back to play. You really should check them out this early on...

NEIL GORDON ORR
Not sure what time Neil can pop in but I hope he brings some copies of his book "Deptford Fun City : a ramble through the music and history of New Cross and Deptford' because it's a classic. It's not surprising that this is where punk fanzine Sniffin Glue was born - the area is still colourful and rebellious. Anyway, hopefully Neil can read some of the book while he's here and perhaps have a go on the decks a bit, gotta have some tunes between the bands!

DIGITAL SNEAKERS
460 New Cross Road was once the Prince Albert Pub then it was The Paradise Bar now it's the Six String Bar. It was home to Pop Of The Tops, unworldly Tuesday nights that enticed underground rock's rising stars to the lighty up stage. They're still coming - see above. "Rocklands - Live In New Cross" are a set of 13 band profiles

"Rocklands" has been shown in loads of venues and events, at film festivals & cinemas (including The ICA and Curzon in Soho) but the one place they have never been screened is at 460 New Cross Road... Not until 3pm on 16th July 005 anyway... (includes additional videos and documentaries by Digital Sneakers).

The next filming of the rock underground is being done between now and Artful in October and suggestions are welcome, as are music fans with movie cams that wish to contribute. contact Digital Sneakers via http://www.digitalsneakers.co.uk/

While you're at Six String Bar/Music Tourist Board HQ. . .

* Check out the local compilation albums "I Swear I Was There" and "Raw & Unplugged In New Cross" which feature some of the above bands. Get 'em behind the bar. Some of the bands playing will probably have their own CDs etc and mailing lists, so get involved with them while you're all in the same room.

* Grab yourself a Music Tourist Board card and join in the staging of ARTFUL in October. Details are around the venue, cards are at the bar. Also cheap entry to Lava club, Hot club, MTB t-shirts at discount and whatever the future holds...

* Feel free to bring flyers, zines, stickers badges etc. If you would like to talk to or photograph any of the bands, or just do a report of whats going on - come on down you're welcome. There's a lot of people around here with a lot to say, and its laid back enough for folks that just want to chill and hang out with music wavelength folks.

Hey I think there's something up because Mark sent me an email that I don't remember getting! I'll have another look though because I wouldnt rule out daftness!

One change to Saturday, Morgan from Plugs is now on the door instead of the stage cos one of the band can't make it and The Frake are replacing them. Does anybody know people with cameras. I want to get some pix off stage but my digital camera is just "ok"

Stax Nebraska- 07-15-2005
Slightly dishevelled myself today. Saw a few bands at the Fox in Lewisham and then sat up all night drinking wine and solving the world's problems. Apparently it's all to do with jigsaws. Hence sitting at home on a balmy Friday evening, recharging the batteries for tomorrow. Looks like it'll be a top day, loads of people coming along at various stages and the backdrop of a good, cheap bar and some top tunes. If you ain't already coming, change your mind swiftly.

Mnx, I read that The Crowd no longer have a bass amp to use. Anyone else likely to bring one along?

mnx- 07-16-2005
Stax sir. At worst Goo will D.I. through 2 x 1200 watt speakers. Charlie Brown are driving and may try to bring theirs. The Frake are driving too, so I'll give Toby a call...

Nebraska. 6X6.
Penultimate band at Six String Bar.
Six Six Six. Number of the best.
Legendary Lava-ness, R.I.P.

tabithapirate- 07-20-2005
is that the final end of Lava then?

mnx- 07-20-2005
I dunno. I was loving the Lava. Molten hot rock and all that... Needs a venue with a certain vibe tho. It was a second home to us Love Pirates and other renegades eh? What a local! If I win the lottery I'll buy 460 New Cross Road and turn it into a brothel with loud classical music blaring out the windows, just to fuck the neightbours off! Ha ha...

I think 6X6 was a fitting tribute to just under six months of fun funny business!

Guest- 07-21-2005
What's happening to Lava? The end of the 6 String Bar? Pop of the Tops and The Paradise Bar's closing was as much as I could take!
