CARDIFF CHAPTER- 23RD APRIL.
THE SWEAR
"Hailing from trendy New Cross, The Swear play the sort of post punk art rock that sits somewhere between the Slits and the Roger Sisters. 'Ch Ch Eh!' is a chanting shout-along that's backed by an urgent angular guitar and has token handclaps. It's a slight evolution from Bloc Party and Art Brut, the singer does unfortunately sound like someone has him by the throat. 'Lessons Learned' is a punk pop ditty about going out, fashion and crossed wires. 'Retail Therapy' is about going shopping for cds and going on holiday and 'Disco Bitch' is an urgent and energetic swipe at someone on a dance floor and is shambolically delightful. This is mucis to hold your luminous 80s handbag to."(ARTROCKER)

GEMMA RAY RITUAL
"Gemma Ray obviously gets her kicks by taking in strays from late-90's also-rans like Ten Benson and January but when she leads her ritual down the same dark paths as The Duke Spirit, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave they're a brilliantly brooding prospect. 8/10."(Rick Martin, NME)

London four piece THE BOYFRIENDS are a stunning live prospect following on from opening up John Peel’s new band tent last summer, they have produced a series of brilliant performances across the capital, from Stay Beautiful to the Brixton Windmill. Musically the Boyfriends are dark, but always uplifting they are often compared to the Smiths, but thats a lazy comparison. Sure Martin’s vocal tone shares Morrissey’s melodrama and passion, but this band have more disparate influences: you can hear the throb of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” in David’s Bass notes, and the crunching power of the Jesus and Mary Chain in Richard’s aggressive guitar licks. They have recently received airplay on Radio 1’s Fresh Meat section, and are set to release a single called “I Love You” in Feb on Boobytrap! We are proud to unveil them as our headliners for Gspot 2.

“The Boyfriends warmed people’s hearts…the first band in the former new band tent would have been appreciated by Peel himself” The Independent on The Boyfriends’ Glastonbury appearance

“The most captivating prospect of this oncoming winter…about to go a very long way” NME

“A real fearsome looking crew who give the air of being happier on the terraces than singing tender love songs” Artrocker

LUXEMBOURG the city's best-kept Secret, return to GSPOT following their glorious set last year. 2005 was a triumphant year for the band releasing the highly acclaimed Single "Luxembourg Vs Great Britain" on Shifty Disco and Dogbox, playing a series of thrilling gigs throughout the country, gaining plaudits from all corners. Too gay for radio, too tuneful for the Hoxton trendies, the housewives choice, don't miss one of London's best bands!

"Arch, arching, arcing and sharp-elbowed, Lux VS GB combines the shiny bits of great Britpop - flashes of Suede's attitude, Pulp's killer tunes, Roxy's eye shadow, The Divine Comedy's arched eyebrow and received pronunciation topped with a strangulated chorus twist."(Vanguard online)

London's THE FADES disappeared for a while, there was concern that they would never return, but now they're back and firing, with a new double A side single 'CACA/FRUIT MACHINE' and a raft of thrilling live gigs. We bring back one of London's best live garage punk acts.
"One of the mainstays of the capital's gig circuit, this west London quartet follow a gaggle of singles with an eight-track mini album. Combining the soul-punk of the Clash with vogue-ish garage-punk, the Fades set out to make every track a dark, memorable anthem and, for the most part, succeed." (The Independent)

Birmingham's UNTITLED MUSIC PROJECT are creating a buzz with their punky, riffing, and furious rock and roll sound. Praised by the likes of Artrocker and Playlouder we bring you a very exciting young band eager to blow your mind!

"Untitled Music Project have more tricks up their sleeve than just a Mclusky-esque three chord blast. One is a startled, yammering, trebly beast bashing its way through tangled undergrowth; another, introduced as "our rock & roll song" is just that, a classically sexy thrum without sounding retrogressive, echoes of the Stones and, weirdly 'Great Balls Of Fire' made big, boomy, and raw. It's been a long time since I've got excited about a Brand New Band From England."(Playlouder)

BRIDGE GANG winners of GIITTV ZINE'S unsigned demo of 2005 award, have been creating a real buzz in the capital this year. With a new single set for a release on Brille Records imminently, this bands tuneful mix of the Clash and the Libertines is sure to delight everyone!
"London Sky Tonight, is an opening track simply oozing with quality. Though it's sort of Strokes-y, there's so much more. Clever chord changes, a superb vocal performance, and an overall atmosphere which makes London Sky Tonight put a smile on your face. It's just brilliant; you'll have to listen to it. The Bridge Gang's demo is, at last, something different and fresh, with songs to put some prominent artists to shame. It must be onwards and upwards from here."( GIITTV ZINE)

Formerly known as Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi Chris joined the band on drums and THE INTERNATIONAL KARATE PLUS were born. A super tuneful alternative rock band from Cardiff they are inspired by the fuzz of the Pixies and the tunes of Dinosaur Junior. Releasing a brace of brilliant singles and touring hard this year has seen them push on towards a new album release.
"The Karate boys have taken the recipe, smoothed its fur and come up with something possibly more carefree than their inspirations. A great slice of intelligent guitar pop."(DIS)

South London four-piece NAKERU melodic, tuneful, indie pop has been earning rave reviews all year. Taking their influences from the Pixies, The Beach Boys, and Blur, Drowned in Sound reckon they are "Supernaturally catchy harmonising pop." They recently Won an XFM unsigned award, you must catch this band before they become huge.

"Musically inspired by both American and British indie bands and tied together with vocal harmonies recalling the "call-and-response" of early Motown and the sweet blend of the likes of Simon and Garfunkel, Nakeru recall many of your favourite rock groups, but louder and better. Nakeru are going to be huge. Watch this space!" (Dr John "Hardcore" Rock)

THE MID CARSON COALITION are our wild picks from Guernsey, Channel Islands. Mid Carson thrive on the live stage and it's where they are at home, intensely charged energetic performances display levels of emotion and aggression that is encaptured within the sound of the band.
"Through all the screamo elements, the Maiden-esque riffs and requisite beatdowns the biggest delight throughout is the strength of melody and song writing. These songs will beat their way into your affections and haunt you mercilessly should you dare to leave them unplayed for longer than one day!"(JOYZINE)

DEXY got on a stage and sang at the end of last year. He accidentally went down the proverbial storm with audience members who thought he was playing cover versions. But they were his own songs. The honey vocalled acoustic set is an added twist from his more familiar role of bass, backing vocals and star jumps in a Corporation Blend recently described as Mars Volta meets mexican gun punk... Or as a live review in Damn Pest described, "an arresting contrast to the full band's red-glare melodic caveman assault, twisty and compelling in its own right. Nice concentrated serpentine vibe". Dexy is a big fan of Elliot Smith, and Quasi, Elliot Smiths backing band and close friends have given a big thumbs up to December, the track up at MySpace. Come and see for yourself
