Interesting documentary on BBC2 right now, splicing images from Glasto's past and 2005's show. I like the way its shot its capturing the atmosphere, performances and reflecting the tension that exists between Glasto as a festival for everyone and the more corporate a music event that it has become down the years.

Some classic performances on here: Namely Bjork doing Human Behaviour, Joe Strummer doing straight to Hell, and Radiohead doing Creep(the song they refuse to play again).

I saw a bit of this but I was shattered so fell asleep. The old footage was fascinating, and hearing them talk about the "huge" capacity of 35,000 made me chuckle.

Oddly enough my mum (a legend of a glasto goer until she hit 50) was telling me about the late 80s early 90s, and she said that from 94 onwards (the first year it was covered on Channel 4) was when attendances spiraled upwards toward the "commercialised Glasto" that we have today. That year she went down to our local HMV a few months after tickets went on sale, happily got one and the festival either didn't sell out or did so late on. The following year with the Beeb having the coverage, the interest went huge and after the break in 1996 it was almost uncontrollable, mostly to do with the fact that it was on the telly.

It does seem these days that going to a festival is a cool thing to do, I mean in 1997 i think it was they had to cancel the Phoenix due to lack of interest. I don't think that would happen these days, everything sells out almost straight away.
