If anyone has any ideas/votes for launch night venues then let me know. So far the spread eagle, bull and gate and the catch have been mentioned.

laugh.gif Oh Don't worry there's "no" chance of that.

As long as it's not South London (because hardly anyone I know lives there) and I end up playing it, and Adie DJs, I don't mind where you have the launch show. It'd be nice if it was fairly soon, though, because I'm recording a whole album of new stuff in a couple of weeks and split up bands plus ancient tracks ain't gonna shift the compilation. The longer it is before the launch, the less interest there will be.

Mark L- 07-18-2006
I hate to pass the buck but sadly we do have to blame the art/cover guy for the delays with the comp. In the end I had to finish it off from the non editable scraps we had, as we couldn't wait any longer as deadline after deadline, slipped. I do apologise for the delay, it has been frustrating for myself and Bill too. But the compo will be out soon. This is our first comp, so any teething troubles this time will hopefully not be about next time!

To be fair there are only three bands i know (out of a whopping eighteen) who are no longer going, and one of those had split before submitting a track as they wanted a posthumous release.

IMHO, if people enjoy the tracks, whether a band decided to call it a day or not is besides the point. Also, 'ancient' tracks will only appear 'ancient' to the bands concerned. You could look at it, as potentially renewing interest in gems that bands may not play so much anymore for whatever reason. That is my optimism anyway. biggrin.gif

As to venues, I think the Luminere is an option. Especially if it is on one of Adies' nights.

B1oodFlower- 07-18-2006
Yeah we're sorry about the delays, we have been working very hard to get it out asap.Plus we apreciate that "currentness" with a compilation is an issue, but since we aren't really trying to tie it to one scene as such we think it will stand up on its own.

Like Mark says the point of the compilation was as a way of promoting music(the artists involved), the zine, and raising some money for charity. So as far as I can see you should get some benefit out of it in terms of publicity if nothing else. Many websites/publications/radio stations will get to listen to this cd so there will be press and attention from it.

Venues: Try The Good Ship in Kilburn (NW6) and The Purple Turtle in Camden (NW1) and At Proud in Camden (NW1)?

X

p.s. Mark's optimism for the compilation is a good take. I don't know how many unsigned bands I've never seen before in a small venue say to a handful of people "This is a new one". Aah, they're all new ones to most of us. So should still sound fresh. I'm buying a copy!

THE INDELICATES, since their Brighton debut last september, have rapidly been establishing themselves as one of the most exciting new bands in the UK. Essentially the joint project of Simon (well-known in Brighton as a poet, singer/songwriter and author of musicals) and Julia Indelicate (a gifted photographer who resigned her post in sixties-girl-band tribute act, The Pipettes, last march), The Indelicates write accomplished songs that sit somewhere between folk and stadium rock with an incisive, genuinely intelligent lyrical sensibility. They've been tipped by everyone from Maps to Rolling Stone, come and see one of 2006's most exciting new bands.

'Neo-Brecht/Weill theatricality? Check. Profane razor strop wit? Check. Irreverent misanthropy? Check. Scathing socio-cultural critiques? Check. Acid sweet indiepop songcraft? Check. Meet the first Great band of 2006, the fabulously unfashionable, unfashionably fabulous Indelicates.' (Rolling Stone)

‘Stunning’ they ‘share their sharp wit and social commentary with 90s brainiacs Black Box Recorder, but soften it with a spoonful of Belle & Sebastian’s twee-yet-epic ensemble indie’. (NME)

THE BRIDGE GANG winners of GIITTV ZINE’S unsigned demo of 2005 award, have been creating a real buzz in the capital this year. With a new single set for a release soon, this bands tuneful mix of the Clash and the Libertines is sure to delight everyone!
“London Sky Tonight, is an opening track simply oozing with quality. Though it’s sort of Strokes-y, there’s so much more. Clever chord changes, a superb vocal performance, and an overall atmosphere which makes London Sky Tonight put a smile on your face. It’s just brilliant; you’ll have to listen to it. The Bridge Gang’s demo is, at last, something different and fresh, with songs to put some prominent artists to shame. It must be onwards and upwards from here.”( GIITTV ZINE)

THE VIDEO CLUB
In 2004 London pair Nicolas Biscuit and Matt Biscuit (formely of Art Brut and the Art Goblins) formed The Video Club. They are the sleaziest thing this side of Prince creating a sound Dubbed “Regency Hardcore” they combine electro beats with tales of depravity.
“The VC unleash a synth fuelled romp, which had it been released a couple of years ago would have been tarred with the electroclash brush and discarded into the dustbin of camp novelty. Fortunately for them (and us) songs like 'National Trust (I'm the King of England)' are propelled by sufficiently arse shaking beats and compulsive synth stabs, and if the songs don't get you, singer Matt Biscuit's rogueish charms will.” (JoyZine)

Oooh I'll definitely be at this, on a Saturday too, great for me as I can only get up to London on weekends.

pompompromotions- 08-02-2006
Jim bobby junior, must make sure I get down to see Laura's band.
Plus I heard those Indelicates trouble-makers are pretty nifty too... and apparently the frontwoman Julia has the sexiest shoes this side of Swansea.
