THE SOUTHERN ELECTRICS - Greenwich's rising stars, The Southern Electrics play a homecoming show following their January tour with Electric Eel Shock. Reactions to their astonishingly great debut album 'Electric Superhighway' (described "Eclectic as a sack of David Bowies"!) have tipped them for bit things. The Southern Electrics are winning an army of fans as word gets out. They've had videos on the TV, soundtracked the film Barcelona Burnout, and as a live band their reputation is first class. Their next album is going to take them to a whole new level if the first single, the recently recorded 'Electric Love', is anything to go by. Here is a chance to celebrate with The Southern Electrics at close range, while you still can.
MISS BLACK AMERICA : "The best voice-to-the-voiceless punks around" (Rock Sound) - We get treated to an acoustic set from the a band described as 'The Best Band In Britain' by Rolling Stone Magazine. MBA have had their ups and downs, and then their ups and downs, and have come through to this year with their strongest impression, and biggest UP yet thanks to their rock classic of a new album, 'Terminal'. Miss Black America are currently planning their first European tour, but before "Your new cult heroes" (NME) leave these shores - here's a sneak preview of what we're exporting.
CLAY MACHINE GUN : Formidable and unmissable. A brand new band already tipped for massiveness this year in the current issue of The Fly. Fronted by rock goddess Amanda (ex The Miggs) which is a great reason all by itself to check out these future pop stars.
DEXY got on a stage and sang at the end of last year. He accidentally went down the proverbial storm with audience members who thought he was playing cover versions. But they were his own songs. The honey vocalled acoustic set is an added twist from his more familiar role of bass, backing vocals and star jumps in a rock band recently described as Mars Volta meets mexican gun punk... Or as a live review in Damn Pest described, "an arresting contrast to the full band’s red-glare melodic caveman assault, twisty and compelling in its own right. Nice concentrated serpentine vibe". Dexy is a big fan of Elliot Smith, and Quasi, Elliot Smith’s backing band and close friends have given a big thumbs up to December, the track up at MySpace. Come and see for yourself
THE BLUE LIGHT DISTRICT is a fastly growing creative community, currently closely involved with the promotion of local musicians and artists. They create websites and flyers, record demos, make badges and provide live engineering, photography, filming and help in any way possible. Based in Rocklands, The Blue Light District are currently working with the likes of William, Seeking Silence, Spare Heads, Morello Cherry, Popular Workshop, Heroic Doses, Chet and more. They are a collective of artists, musicians, photographers, programmers, promoters, sound engineers etc aiming to nurture talent and pull down some of the barriers that prevent people enjoying music and art more freely and to it's fullest potential. TBLD are continuously searching for more collaborators, so get in touch with them, come along and join in.
