I'm notoriously change-resistant so you can safely deduce what I think!
I'm kinda worried that they may be going even more urban... For the past year I've thought they had the mix just right...

To be honest in the last few years I've hardly listened to radio one. The Death of Peel, the cutting back of Lamacq's output and generally employing the likes of Zane Lowe, Colin Murray, Sara Cox, and Vernon Kaye is guranteed to put me off. As for the changes it just smacks of not being able to fill the old evening sesh slot(what was so wrong with the sesh!!??). I don't understand why Radio one seems to favour the kind of presenter who has a zany personality over ones who have a genuine passion for music. Of course at any station there's a mix of the two but for me in the key time slots, the balance is totally skewed.

I just wish R1 could see that Lamacq is so obviously the only successor to Peel, and needs a show where he gets that kind of latitude. I'd like to see him stay at R1 for sure. Unfortunately I've stopped listening to his R1 show ONLY because, with the time difference, it conflicts with Andrew Loog Oldham on Sirius Underground Garage over here, and for me that one is mandatory listening! Overall I'm not sure I'm too happy with the direction *either* R1 or 6 Music is going...

don't really listen to radio 1 anymore, but that Murray is an annoying cock, he loves Snow Patrol and reminds me of the guy from Snow Patrol and his interviewing is inane.

More Lamacq!
And whats Gary Crowley doing these days? Does anyone know? He used to be great.

Think I saw him reporting for London BBC news, he was interviewing someone or other. Didn't he used to do some good live music shows on CH4?

Yeah, "the beat" on ITV late at night.
He also did radio. London radio or something. He use to have "Demo clashes" that was a starting point for Suede and echobelly and the like.
I'm going to track him down now.

Good news - looks like Lammo is staying & will do one night of the In New Music We Trust show. Realistically his R1 show hasn't amounted to more than 1 hour of HIS insight anyway for a while now... So, much better than nothing!!
I'm a big fan of Lamacq and his 6 music show is essential listening, I really enjoy Lamacq live as well but never really get a chance to listen to it.
Gary Crowley is still on BBC London about 7pm on a Saturday I think and he still does the demo clash.
I tend to listen to 6 music more than anything else at the moment.

RADIO 1 OLD GUARD LINED UP FOR NEW MUSIC MAGAZINE SHOW Talking of radio revamps, you can all sleep soundly tonight safe in the knowledge that Radio 1 have found a new slot in their specialist show schedule for Mr Steve Lamacq, whose current weekly Monday night show will disappear when the station's evening line up relaunches in September.
The initial announcement about the specialist show rejig earlier this week didn't mention where Lamacq would fit in, though bosses insisted he wasn't leaving the station completely. Yesterday they confirmed that he would remain on the air, albeit for one hour a week, as one of four presenters of 'In New Music We Trust', a nightly new music magazine programme type thing.
Lamacq will host Mondays, with Tim Westwood hosting Tuesday, Jo Whiley hosting Wednesday and Pete Tong hosting Thursdays, which does make it something of a 'forty-somethings speak to the kids' slot, though it is probably to Radio 1's credit that their flagship specialist presenters (or former specialist presenters in Whiley's case) maintain their credibility in their respective genre communities, despite having been around for so long.
That they maintain some link with Lamacq seems important to the Radio 1 top guard, presumably because he continues to be popular among the indie faithful - though presumably most of them are clever enough to tune in to his daily afternoon show on BBC digital/online station 6Music.

The best, and ONLY, thing worth listening to on Radio 1 ---> The Lock Up

Did anyone see that thing about the history of light entertainment last night? it was really interesting, it was going on about the old R1 presenters and such like ie Kenny Everett, John Peel, DLT, Jimmy Saville, Chris Evans.
