Don't usually smoke, but I think the ban's a bad idea. It's just part of the expected culture at certain places. Plus a lot of places (eg Wetherspoons) are banning it voluntarily, which means if you want a non-smoking pub you can get one and if you want a smoking pub you can get one. Suits everyone. Because both are demanded, both get supplied - pub owners see a niche in the market. So if people care that much, they're likely to get their wish without the government having to impose a blanket ban...

Im a smoker...I dont think its that bad an idea at all really.

I think its unfair that people who choose not to smoke still end up going home with all the bad bits about smoking, with out actually doing it - stinking of fags, second hand smoke etc...

However I do feel there should be a choice in the matter. Seems a little....OTT to ban it from ALL public places. Most are non smoking anyway, and as someone has mentioned earlier in the thread - there are pubs which are becoming non smoking now....

I didnt think the government would ever put this in place, due to the amount of money they get from us smokers - i wouldnt of thought they would risk that dropping. But i guess in the long run, a few smokers may give up/smoke less...but it wont make a great deal of difference to them, due to all the people that will continue smoking.

Im gonna attempt to give up this summer anyway. But i cant see how i can go for a drink with out having a cigarette. Plus, what am i gonna hold when im dancing!? I have to have a fag when i dance!
