I think it is a great promotional tool. I use it all the time!

It has its uses, but its limited in alot of ways. And people are starting to realise that.

My pretend record label gets 10 add requests from bands a day, despite only having 50 friends. How do people find us?

I went through and deleted a load of bands the other day. I've only left the ones I actually like/support.

i don't generally add bands unless i know them personally or i'm keeping 'tabs' on them. if i like 'em then i'll make a note of them. if i don't like them, they go on a different list altogether.
two bands who added our personal profiles are ones we've gone on to release singles by, so it has its uses sometimes.

If you have a band it is th ebest way to get a promoter to hear your and saves on massive costs of making annd sending demo CD's

I was always guilty of having a CD pile to listen to, as I am untidy/flaky by nature and always lost the bits of paper that went with each CD. I find it easy to make up a bill by surfing around, listening to a couple of tunes immediately, I have to admit...
...it's just that with all the pictures to load up etc, my computer/browser groans sometimes then faints (or does the poota equivalent, anyway), so I still find that email is the fastest way to actually get the backwarding and forwarding done, and phone the best way to confirm it/have a natter.
