THE ALPS : “bringing a confident new sound back to London" (Xfm), Fuss free post punk TUNES with their own thorny 21st century twist. The Greenwich quartet create three-minute gems that look set to barge their way into mainstream consciousness, if the reaction to their first singles are anything to go by. Steve Lamacq gave 'World at War' their first Radio 1 play. Both 'World At War' and follow up, 'Last Dance' - were both Xfm radio play listed and earned The Alps two live Xfm sessions. They were described as "awesome" from David Hasselhoff, played last year's Reading Festival and Artful Party. This year a triumphant Italian Tour, then The Mighty Boosh Aftershow Party and, recently The Tiscali Showcase. The Alps are working on their debut album. "Boy do they have backbone and their own edge." (gigwise) http://www.planetofthealps.comhttp://www.myspace.com/alpsalpsalps
NEBRASKA : South East London's deservedly adored will floor you live. Dramatic, poetic and anthemic, Nebraska combine modernity and classicism to pack a hard punch in a velvet glove. The iconic guitar sound and intelligent lyrics sung in a 40-a-day choirboy voice weave with washes of wonderful other-worldliness over smooth running bass. Nebraska deliver the three minute pop song and seven minute epic with the same level of passion. Every song is a single, each its own classic. As Joyzine put it, “Nebraska meld the wistful melancholy of The Smiths with the passion and urgency of early Manics and come out somewhere entirely of their own". I prefer Nebraska to either.” The Nebraska track, 'Grey Spaces appears on the Once Upon Another Time compilation (Pole Club, Aug 28) http://www.myspace.com/nebraskamusic
HATCHAM SOCIAL : Rising star newer wave pop dandies play home turf show before debut single release 'Dance As If' officially released on Ltd 7” Vinyl (WaKs Records) the very next day! "...Romantic Absurdists play post-rave swing" - Vice Magazine "...the new Kinks" - Smiths Magazine. "Lyrical genius" - John Kennedy, XFM. "A venomous beast has spewed forth from below" - God Is In The TV. "Brilliant music for the roaming scamps our there" - Artrocker - http://www.myspace.com/hatchamsocial
THE NEEDLES Hooky, Punky and Showy with a word of awe reputation. "Fantastic" - Rocksound, "A fuzzy magic gem" - Metro. "From the simplest of constituents, The Needles have created a monster" - NME. A band that scare the audience with pop songs about girls. The Needles have built a following, sold-out 5 DIY EPs, had radio airplay, toured the UK (including festivals/In The City) and recorded sessions for Radio 1, BBC Scotland and more, while generally becoming great at what they do in the process! In June 006 they released their first proper single Dianne (Indie Chart Top 20 and the video at NME.com). The Needles have an exclusive track 'Set My Guitar to the Heart of Destroy' on the Once Upon Another Time compilation (Aug 28, Pole Club) http://www.theneedles.net and http://www.myspace.com/theneedlesuk
DEAD PIXELS : Sleaze, Glam Guitar and Beats; Dead Pixels couldn't have existed in any other decade. The sound of the classically familiar and completely new. They are Danish chanteuse Lone Blomhoj, Peter "Bateman" Simmons, and Diesel U-Music Award winning producer Gram "Kleiko" Gaughan. Wicked tunes and beats have already earned Dead Pixels European trips (and a London Coronet show). You'll catch them live on the sussed cool-rock underground circuit. The video for forthcoming single, Not Tonight is by MTV2 acclaimed future-star spotters Digital Sneakers (who, incidentally, spotted a seminal Hatcham Social in their acclaimed Rocklands Live In New Cross film). Soaked in creativity and initiative, look out for Dead Pixels on pixeled screens soon. Check into the Hotel Dead Pixels http://www.dead-pixels.co.ukhttp://www.myspace.com/deadpixelsmusic
POPULAR WORKSHOP : Propulsive unhinged beautiful pop music that has had extensive airplay on Xfm, DiS Radio, Artrocker Radio and a million(ish) internet places and even Oxford Street's Top Sho. They did a live session for Xfm's John Kennedy in April and are an article feature in the current issue of Artrocker Magazine. They've played with loads of DIY network rock'n'roll faves and can be witnessed at very close range in New Cross Inn! "Controlled feedback, nasty chords and yet...Christ on a bike, a tune! ...Popular Workshop are the kind of deranged, musically minded psychopaths I love to see releasing records and offending self righteous muso twats. Brilliant stuff." R*E*P*E*A*T http://www.myspace.com/popularworkshop
BLAH BLAH BLAH skiffle punk geniusness with wry lyrics, simple great tunes and more personality in an arched eyebrow than ten media darlings in one room. Can't get enough of them down Rocklands way, if you're not instantly hooked, you weren't there... So arrive early. Seriously. http://www.myspace.com/blahblahblahandfriends
THE PEPYS sharp alt-blues noise pop getting many thumbs up. South East London's Keep-An-Ear-Outs with their whistfully lyrical newer wave tunes. http://www.myspace.com/thepepys
THE POSTCARDS make very occasional live appearances around London. Their sets are fast and fun - whizzing through short, sharp blasts of bittersweet guitar-pop, only pausing to mop their brow and say hello. http://www.myspace.com/thepostcards
JET LAG (rock'n'rock'n'rock'n'roll) a big thank you to Felix's School of Rock who have come on board with some excellent new bands to look out for and some wild n crazy scenes at Dirty South which have made the Access All Ages Rock Matinees an instant hit. Right then, if you know some places that under 18s bands can play get in touch! http://www.fsor.co.uk
